Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 labouring, weary, 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 in a Garden on high, 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 And cups set at hand. 14 And arranged carpets. 15 And linen spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
