The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And rejects the best, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
