The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
