A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor good. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Have you considered the seed you spill? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
