He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And he feareth 9 you ignore him. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and date palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
