The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 And by oath of the night when it hides it 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 and he who corrupts it is sure to fail. 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 But they gave him the lie, and cruelly slaughtered her - whereupon their Sustainer visited them with utter destruction for this their sin, destroying them all alike: 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
