And to Madyan (We sent) their brother Shu'aib. He said: O my people! serve Allah, you have no god other than Him; clear proof indeed has come to you from your Lord, therefore give full measure and weight and do not diminish to men their things, and do not make mischief in the land after its reform; this is better for you if you are believers: 85 And do not lie in wait in every path, threatening and turning away from Allah's way him who believes in Him and seeking to make it crooked; and remember when you were few then He multiplied you, and consider what was the end of the mischief-makers. 86 And if there is a group of you which believes in My message and others who disbelieve it, be patient until God shall judge between us. He is the best of judges." 87 ۞ The haughty elders of his people said: 'O Shu'ayb! We shall certainly banish you and your companions-in-faith from our town, or else you shall return to our faith.' Shu'ayb said: 'What! Even though we abhor [your faith]? 88 We would be inventing lies against God if we returned to your faith after God has delivered us from it. It is not for us to return to it unless God our Lord so willed. Our Lord encompasses all things in His knowledge. We have put our trust in God. Our Lord, expose the truth [and judge] between us and our people, You are the best judge." 89 The leading men of his people who were bent on denying the truth, said, "If you follow Shu'ayb, you will certainly be the losers." 90 So the earthquake seized them, and they became within their home [corpses] fallen prone. 91 It seemed as if those who had belied Shu'aib had never lived there. Those who belied Shu'aib were the losers. 92 And he turned away from them and said, "O my people, I had certainly conveyed to you the messages of my Lord and advised you, so how could I grieve for a disbelieving people?" 93
