In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them that they may eat and enjoy themselves and (that) hope may beguile them, for they will soon know. 3 And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree. 4 No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter. 5 They say: 'Thou, upon whom the Remembrance is sent down, thou art assuredly possessed! 6 Why do you not bring down the angels, if what you say is true' 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 Behold, it is We Ourselves who have bestowed from on high, step by step, this reminder; and behold, it is We who shall truly guard it [from all corruption]. 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before you (O Muhammad SAW) amongst the sects (communities) of old. 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 This is how We cause the hearts of the guilty ones to behave. 12 They will not believe in it, while there has already occurred the precedent of the former peoples. 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 yet would they say, 'Our eyes have been dazzled; nay, we are a people bewitched!' 15
