He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
