Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 therein a running fountain, 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 cushions ranged, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
