The Spoils of War (Al-Anfaal)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ They ask you, [O Muhammad], about the bounties [of war]. Say, "The [decision concerning] bounties is for Allah and the Messenger." So fear Allah and amend that which is between you and obey Allah and His Messenger, if you should be believers. 1 Believers are only they whose hearts tremble with awe whenever God is mentioned, and whose faith is strengthened whenever His messages are conveyed unto them, and who in their Sustainer place their trust 2 Who are firm in devotion, and spend of what We have given them, 3 Those are they who are in truth believers. For them are grades (of honour) with their Lord, and pardon, and a bountiful provision. 4 Even as thy Lord caused thee (Muhammad) to go forth from thy home with the Truth, and lo! a party of the believers were averse (to it). 5 Disputing with thee concerning the truth after it was made manifest, as if they were being driven to death and they (actually) saw it. 6 And recall what time Allah was promising you one of the two parties that it should be yours, and ye would fain that the one without arms was yours; whilst Allah besought to justify the truth by His words and to cut off the root of the infidels. 7 and that He might verify the truth and prove untrue the untrue, though the sinners were averse to it. 8 When you (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) were seeking the help of your Lord, so He answered your prayers that, “I will help you with a row of thousands of angels.” 9 Allah only made it to be glad tidings and so that your hearts may be satisfied; victory comes only from Allah; He is Almighty, Wise. 10
