The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 Recompense fitted! 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
