Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
