۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 “Instead of Allah and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 And stop them, for they shall be questioned: 24 They will be asked, "Why do you not help each other?" 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 27 They will say: verily ye! ye were wont to come unto us Imposing. 28 They shall say: Nay, you (yourselves) were not believers; 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 But now our Lord's word has come true against us: truly, we are bound to taste [the punishment]. 31 "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." 32 Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. 33 This is how We deal with the guilty. 34 For when it was said unto them, There is no Allah save Allah, they were scornful 35 And (they) said: "Are we going to abandon our aliha (gods) for the sake of a mad poet? 36 In fact he has brought the Truth, and testified for the Noble Messengers! 37 “You surely have to taste the painful punishment.” 38 And ye shall be required not except for that which ye have been doing; 39 But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). 40 shall have a known provision -- 41 Fruits! And they shall be honoured. 42 In Gardens of peace. 43 Facing one another on thrones, 44 a cup from a spring being passed round to them, 45 white, sparkling (wine), a delight to the drinkers. 46 there is neither sickness in it, nor intoxication. 47 And with them shall be damsels of refraining looks, large-eyed 48 like closely guarded pearls. 49 Then one turned to the other in an enquiry. 50 One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth), 51 who was wont to ask [me,] 'Why - art thou really one of those who believe it to be true 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 He will say, "Would you [care to] look?" 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin, 56 Had I not the guidance of my Lord, I would certainly have been brought into torment". 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 except for our first death? Are we not going to be punished? 59 Verily this is the supreme achievement! 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Surely We have made it to be a trial to the unjust. 63 Surely it is a tree that-grows in the bottom of the hell; 64 The fruit thereof is as though the hoods of the serpents. 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then on the top of that they will be given boiling water to drink so that it becomes a mixture (of boiling water and Zaqqum in their bellies). 67 Then their return will be to the same blazing Hell. 68 Surely they found their fathers going astray, 69 and rushed to follow them. 70 And indeed before them, most of the former people went astray. 71 though We had sent warners among them. 72 See then the end of those who were warned, 73 Only Our sincere servants were saved. 74
