The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the star when it descends, 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
