He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him you attend; 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 lofty and pure, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
