Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 and the day in splendour 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 who belied and turned away, 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 He verily will be content. 21
