The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 they see it as being far off; 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children, 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all those who are in the earth – then only if the redemption saves him! 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 except those that pray 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 who guard their privates 29 [not giving way to their desires] with any but their spouses - that is, those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock]: for then, behold, they are free of all blame, 30 So those who desire more than this – it is they who are the transgressors. 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
