Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Dawn, 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
