The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night, when it envelops, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
