The chiefs of the people of Fir'awn said: verily this is a magician knowing. 109 He intends to turn you out of your land. What counsel do you then give? 110 They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers 111 to bring together at the Pharaohs court all the skillful magicians. 112 And the enchanters came to Firon (and) said: We must surely have a reward if we are the prevailing ones. 113 He said: yea! and verily ye shall be of those brought nigh. 114 They said, 'Moses, wilt thou cast, or shall we be the casters?' 115 He said, 'You cast.' And when they cast they put a Spell upon the people's eyes, and called forth fear of them, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 And [then] We inspired Moses, "Throw down thy staff!" - and lo! it swallowed up all their deceptions: 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed, and that which they had brought vanished. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and utterly humiliated. 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 And said: "We have come to believe in the Lord of all the worlds, 121 The Lord of Musa and Harun. 122 Firon said: Do you believe in Him before I have given you permission? Surely this is a plot which you have secretly devised in this city, that you may turn out of it its people, but you shall know: 123 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all." 124 They said: "Verily, we are returning to our Lord. 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
