۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 “Instead of Allah – and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 And halt them, to be questioned: 24 What aileth you that ye help not one another? 25 indeed, on that Day they will surrender themselves. 26 And they will turn to one another and question one another. 27 These say, 'Why, you of old would come to us from the right hand.' 28 They will say: nay! ye yourselves were not believers. 29 We had no authority over you, but you were an insolent nation. 30 The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment), 31 We mislead you and we ourselves had also gone astray." 32 On that Day, they will all share the chastisement. 33 This is how We deal with the criminals. 34 Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant 35 And said: Shall we forsake our gods for a mad poet? 36 (They say so although) he brought the Truth and confirmed the veracity of the Messengers. 37 Most surely you will taste the painful punishment. 38 And you shall not be rewarded except (for) what you did. 39 But the chosen servants of God; 40 For them awaits a known provision, 41 Fruits; and they will be honoured. 42 In Gardens of Delight. 43 sitting face to face upon couches, 44 Cups of wine will be presented to them in rounds, from a spring flowing in front of them. 45 white, sparkling (wine), a delight to the drinkers. 46 wherein no sickness is, neither intoxication; 47 And with them will be mates of modest gaze, most beautiful of eye, 48 like closely guarded pearls. 49 They will turn to each other and ask questions. 50 A speaker of them will say: "Verily, I had a companion (in the world), 51 who would say, "Are you a confirmer? 52 Shall we be recompensed for our deeds after we die and become bones and dust? 53 (The man) said: "Will you look down?" 54 Then he will look downwards, and will see him in the depths of Hell. 55 He shall say: By Allah! you had almost caused me to perish; 56 But for Allah's favour, I should be one of those who have been mustered here. 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 Save our first death, and are we not to be tormented? 59 Most surely this is the mighty achievement. 60 For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum? 62 We have made this (tree) a trial for the evildoers. 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 The fruit thereof is as though the hoods of the serpents. 65 on it they shall feed, and with it they shall fill their bellies. 66 then in addition to it they shall have a draught of boiling water to drink; 67 And thereafter verily their return is unto the Flaming Fire. 68 They found their fathers in error, 69 So in their footsteps they are being hastened on. 70 Most of the ancient people had also gone astray. 71 though We had sent warners among them. 72 See then the end of those who were warned, 73 except for the chosen servants of Allah? 74
