The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 You will become three categories: 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and gushing water, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 and raised couches 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
