▼ 74 The Hidden Secret
Al-Muddath-thir 2 of 2
I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 By the night when it departs. 33 And by oath of the morning, when it spreads light. 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 a warning to humankind, 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 Except those on the right side. 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 Concerning the guilty: 41 What has brought you into hell? 42 They will answer: "We were not among those who prayed; 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 We plunged in with the plungers 45 And we have been belying the Day of Requital. 46 until there came to us the certainty. 47 Then there will not profit them intercesion of the interceders. 48 Then what is wrong with them that they turn away from admonition, 49 as if they were startled asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 In fact every one of them wants to be given open books (like the prophets). 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 No! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder 54 So, whoever wills, will remember it. 55 And they will not mind unless Allah please. He is worthy to be feared and worthy to forgive. 56

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
