a large group of the earlier people 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 and will have to fill your bellies therewith, 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 "We are ruined, 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
