The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
