He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
