The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the sky is rent asunder, 1 and obeys its Lord as it must, 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it] 4 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 5 Human being, you strive hard to get closer to your Lord, and so you will certainly receive the recompense (of your deeds). 6 Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand, 7 Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, 8 and shall return to his people joyfully. 9 But whoso is given his account behind his back, 10 he shall call for destruction 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 He used to be happy with his own people; 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! 15 I swear by the twilight; 16 and the night, and what it [step by step] unfolds, 17 and the moon, as it grows to its fullness: 18 you will progress from stage to stage. 19 What then is the matter with them, that they believe not?- 20 Why, when the Quran is recited to them, do they not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 Allah knows best what they are accumulating (in their Record). 23 So give them tidings of a painful doom, 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
