And indeed, We created man from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 26 And created the jinn before him, from smokeless fire. 27 And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "I am going to create a man (Adam) from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 28 When I have shaped him and ran My created soul in him fall down prostrating towards him'. 29 All the angels prostrated themselves, 30 except iblis (father of the jinn) who refused to be one of those who prostrated themselves. 31 Said He, 'What ails thee, Iblis, that thou art not among those bowing?' 32 He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud." 33 He said: Then go thou forth from hence, for lo! thou art outcast. 34 And verily on thee shall be the curse till the Day of Requital. 35 Iblis prayed, "Lord, grant me respite until the Day of Judgment". 36 Said He, 'Thou art among the ones that are respited 37 "Till the Day of the Time appointed." 38 (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! because Thou hast put me in the wrong, I will make (wrong) fair-seeming to them on the earth, and I will put them all in the wrong,- 39 [all] save such of them as are truly Thy servants!" 40 Said Allah, “This path* leads straight towards Me.” (* The path of the chosen bondmen.) 41 Indeed, My servants - no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators. 42 For whom the ordained place is surely Hell, 43 It has seven gates; for every gate is of them a portion designated." 44
