[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to [one of God's] message-hearers 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 and that you will [always be able to] hew dwellings out of the mountains with [the same] great skill?" 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 Who corrupt the land and do not reform it." 152 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day." 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 159
