The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 We created man of a sperm-drop, a mingling, and We made him hearing, seeing. 2 We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 We have prepared chains, shackles, and flaming fire (for the disbelievers). 4 the righteous shall drink from a cup mixed with the coolness of kafur, 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah will drink, causing it to gush forth abundantly. 6 They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread. 7 And out of His love, they give food to the needy, the orphan and the prisoner. 8 (Saying): We feed you, for the sake of Allah only. We wish for no reward nor thanks from you; 9 Surely we fear from our Lord a stern, distressful day. 10 And so, God will preserve them from the woes of that Day, and will bestow on them brightness and joy, 11 and recompensed them for their patience with a Garden, and silk; 12 Reclining therein on raised couches, they shall find therein neither (the severe heat of) the sun nor intense cold. 13 And near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance. 14 And brought round amongst them will be vessels of silver and also goblets of glass. 15 Crystal-clear, made of silver: they will determine the measure thereof (according to their wishes). 16 And they will be given to drink there of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Zanjabil,- 17 [derived from] a source [to be found] therein, whose name is "Seek Thy Way". 18 ۞ And boys of everlasting youth will go about attending them. Looking at them you would think that they were pearls dispersed. 19 When you look around, you will see delights and great dominion. 20 Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink. 21 This is your reward. Your endeavour is fully acknowledged. 22
