The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
