Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
