The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And spreading shade, 30 and gushing water, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And made them virgins. 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
