The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder, 1 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should; 2 And when the earth is spread out. 3 and throws out of itself all that it contains 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 Will have an easy reckoning, 8 and shall return to his people joyfully. 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 He shall call for perdition, 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 He used to live joyfully among his people, 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yea! surely his Lord does ever see him. 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 and the night and what it envelops 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 you shall surely ride stage after stage. 19 What aileth them, then, that they believe not 20 and [that,] when the Qur'an is read unto them, they do not fall down in prostration? ۩ 21 In fact, they reject the Quran, 22 And Allah well knows what they conceal in their hearts. 23 Wherefore announce thou unto them a torment afflictive. 24 Except those who believe and do good; for them is a reward that shall never be cut off. 25
