The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 Verily, We have created man into [a life of] pain, toil and trial. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20

True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
