A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Lam. Mim. Sad. 1 (It is) a Scripture that is revealed unto thee (Muhammad) - so let there be no heaviness in thy heart therefrom - that thou mayst warn thereby, and (it is) a Reminder unto believers. 2 Follow, [O mankind], what has been revealed to you from your Lord and do not follow other than Him any allies. Little do you remember. 3 And a great number of towns (their population) We destroyed (for their crimes). Our torment came upon them (suddenly) by night or while they were sleeping for their afternoon rest. 4 And when Our punishment overtook them they had nothing to say except crying out: "We have indeed been sinners." 5 Then verily We shall question those unto whom (Our message) hath been sent, and verily We shall question the messengers. 6 With knowledge We will narrate to them, for We are never absent. 7 And on that Day, the weighing will truly be done; so those whose scales prove heavy are the successful. 8 Those whose scale will be light, will be their souls in perdition, for that they wrongfully treated Our signs. 9 We have established you in the earth and there appointed for you livelihood; little thanks you show. 10
