The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Mount; 1 And the Scripture inscribed 2 in an exposed parchment 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 By the roof elevated. 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 Who are playing in falsehood. 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 “Eat and drink with pleasure, a reward for what you used to do.” 19 Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 And We will aid them with fruit and flesh such as they desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And they will advance unto each other asking questions. 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
