O you apostles, eat things that are clean, and do things that are good. We are surely cognisant of what you do. 51 Verily this your order is one order, and I am your Lord, so fear Me. 52 But then they divided up their order into different creeds, each section rejoicing in what it had come to have. 53 So leave thou them in their perplexity for a time. 54 Do they think that what We extend to them of wealth and children 55 We would hasten them on in every good? Nay, they do not understand. 56 Indeed those who are overwhelmed due to the fear of their Lord – 57 And those who believe in the communications of their Lord, 58 who associate none with their Lord in His Divinity, 59 and those who give what they give, their hearts quaking that they are returning to their Lord -- 60 it is they who vie with one another in doing good works, and it is they who outrun [all others] in attaining to them! 61 And We tax not any person except according to his capacity, and with Us is a Record which speaks the truth, and they will not be wronged. 62 Nay, but their hearts are in ignorance of this (Qur'an), and they have other works, besides, which they are doing; 63 Until, when We seize in Punishment those of them who received the good things of this world, behold, they will groan in supplication! 64 Invoke not loudly this day! Certainly, you shall not be helped by Us. 65 My Signs were rehearsed to you and you turned back on your heels and took to flight, 66 Stiff-necked, discoursing thereof by night, reviling. 67 Have they not pondered the matter, or did that come to them, which did not come to their forefathers? 68 Or, is it because they do not recognize their Messenger that they denied him? 69 Or do they say, 'He is bedevilled'? Nay, he has brought them the truth, but most of them are averse from the truth. 70 Had the truth followed their fancies, the heavens, the earth, and all who live in them would have surely been corrupted. No, We brought them their Remembrance; but from their Remembrance they turn away. 71 Or dost thou [O Muhammad] ask of them any worldly recompense? But [they ought to know that] recompense from thy Sustainer is best, since He is the best of providers! 72 And verily, thou callest them onto a straight way 73 but those who disbelieve in the Everlasting Life deviate from the Path. 74 ۞ If We took compassion on them and removed the affliction they are in, they would only wander lost in confusion. 75 (They are such) that We seized them with chastisement (and yet) they did not humble themselves before their Lord, nor do they entreat 76 Until, when We open for them the gate of extreme punishment, behold! they are aghast thereat. 77
