The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 And accepts the best, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
