The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 in obedience to the commands of their Lord which are incumbent on them, 2 and when the earth is stretched out 3 And it unburdens itself of all that is in it, and becomes empty. 4 and obeys its Lord as it must, 5 O human, you are working hard towards your Lord and you will meet Him. 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 he will in time be called to account with an easy accounting, 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 And as to him who is given his book behind his back, 10 Soon will he cry for perdition, 11 And shall enter a blazing Fire, and made to taste its burning. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 Surely he thought that he would never return. 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 And by the moon when it is at the full, 18 you will progress from stage to stage. 19 So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe, 20 When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 and Allah knows very well what they gather. 23 So announce to them a Penalty Grievous, 24 except for those who believe and do good deeds. Theirs shall be an unending reward. 25
