The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif Lam Ra. Those are the signs of the Book and of a manifest Koran. 1 Oft times would those who disbelieve fain that they had been Muslims. 2 (Muhammad), leave them alone to eat and enjoy themselves and let their desires deceive them; they will soon know (the Truth). 3 We never destroyed any town without pre-ordaining the fate of its people. 4 Every nation can only live for the time appointed for it. 5 They say: "O you to whom the Admonition has been revealed, you are surely crazed. 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 We do not send down angels except for a genuine purpose, at which time none will be given any further respite. 8 Indeed We have sent down the Qur’an, and indeed We Ourselves surely are its Guardians. (This is one of the miracles of the Qur’an – no one has been able to change even one letter of its text, despite every effort. It has remained in its original form since the 6th Century (A. D) and will remain so forever. Other Holy Books such as the Torah and the Bible have lost their originality.) 9 (O Muhammad), certainly We did send Messengers before you among the nations which have gone by. 10 But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him. 11 Thus do We make it to enter into the hearts of the guilty; 12 who do not believe in it, although the way which those [evildoers] of olden times had to go has long been within their ken. 13 Had We opened a door for them in the sky through which they could easily pass, 14 yet would they say, 'Our eyes have been dazzled; nay, we are a people bewitched!' 15
