The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 140
