Thamud gave the lie to the warnings, 23 For they said: "What! a man! a Solitary one from among ourselves! shall we follow such a one? Truly should we then be straying in mind, and mad! 24 Has the message been sent down upon him from among us? Rather, he is an insolent liar." 25 [And God said:] "On the morrow they will come to know who the boastful liar is! 26 We shall send the she-camel as a trial for them; so watch their end with patience. 27 And declare thou unto them that water hath been divided between them; every drinking shall be by turns. 28 Then they called their fellow, and he took the sword and hamstrung her, 29 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 30 We sent a single blast against them, and they were reduced to husks of a decayed fence. 31 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 32 Lot's people also gave the lie to the warnings, 33 We sent against them a violent Tornado with showers of stones, (which destroyed them), except Lut's household: them We delivered by early Dawn,- 34 As a reward from Us; this is how We reward one who gives thanks. 35 Surely Lot warned his people that We shall seize them (with Our chastisement), but they doubted the warnings. 36 Then they even solicited his guests from him, whereupon We blotted out their eyes, (telling them): “Now have a taste of My chastisement and My warnings.” 37 And verily, an abiding torment seized them early in the morning. 38 So have a taste of My chastisement and My warnings. 39 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 40
