The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 undiminished and never denied 33 and upraised couches. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
