Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn; 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 So enter among My servants, 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
