The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day' 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
