Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha Mim 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority. 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone." 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
