Messengers! Partake of the things that are clean, and act righteously. I know well all that you do. 51 Verily this your order is one order, and I am your Lord, so fear Me. 52 But they (who claim to follow you) have torn their unity wide asunder, piece by piece, each group delighting in [but] what they themselves possess [by way of tenets]. 53 But leave them alone, lost in their ignorance, until a [future] time. 54 Do they think that We are helping them by giving them children and property? 55 We vie in good works for them? Nay, but they are not aware. 56 Surely those who live in awe of their Lord, 57 and who believe in their Sustainer's messages, 58 And those who ascribe not partners unto their Lord, 59 And they who give what they give while their hearts are fearful because they will be returning to their Lord - 60 It is these who race for the good deeds, and they are foremost in them [e.g. offering the compulsory Salat (prayers) in their (early) stated, fixed times and so on]. 61 And [withal.] We do not burden any human being with more than he is well able to bear: for with Us is a record that speaks the truth [about what men do and can do]; and none shall be wronged. 62 NAY, [as for those who have torn asunder the unity of faith] - their hearts are lost in ignorance of all this! But apart from that [breach of unity] they have [on their conscience even worse] deeds; and they will [continue to] commit them 63 Till, when We seize with the chastisement the ones of them that live at ease, behold, they groan. 64 (We shall say): 'Do not groan today, surely you shall receive no help from Us' 65 My verses were recited to you, but you turned upon your heels, 66 Stiff-necked, discoursing thereof by night, reviling. 67 Pondered they not over the Word? or came there unto them that which came not unto their fathers ancient? 68 Or is it, perchance, that they have not recognized their Apostle, and so they disavow him? 69 Do they say he is possessed? Rather he has brought them the truth, but most of them are averse to the truth. 70 And if the truth had been in accordance with their desires, verily, the heavens and the earth, and whosoever is therein would have been corrupted! Nay, We have brought them their reminder, but they turn away from their reminder. 71 Or, do you ask a tribute from them? Your Lord's tribute is better. He is the Best of providers. 72 (Muhammad), you certainly have called them to the right path, 73 And verily those who believe not in the Hereafter are from the path deviating. 74 ۞ And even if We gave them mercy and removed what was upon them of affliction, they would persist in their transgression, wandering blindly. 75 We struck them with torment, but they did not submit themselves to their Lord, nor did they make themselves humble 76 until We opened the gate of greater torment (death) and they suddenly found themselves in despair. 77
