The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif Lam Mim. 1 The Romans are vanquished, 2 In the nearest land. But they, after their defeat, will overcome. 3 Within a few (up to nine) years time; only for Allah is the command, before and after; and the believers will rejoice on that day. 4 In Allah succour. He succoureth whomsoever He will, and He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 5 This is Allah's promise and He does not go back on His promise. But most people do not know. 6 They know only the outward appearance of the life of the world, and they! of the Hereafter, they are neglecetful. 7 Do they not ponder about their own selves? God has created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them for a purpose and for an appointed time? Yet many deny they will ever meet with their Lord. 8 What, have they not journeyed in the land and beheld how was the end of those before them? They were stronger than themselves in might, and they ploughed up the earth and cultivated it more than they themselves have cultivated it; and their Messengers came to them with the clear signs; and God would never wrong them, but themselves they wronged. 9 And once again: evil is bound to be the end of those who do evil by giving the lie to God's messages and deriding them. 10
